Digital Desk: Actor Sahil Khan has been arrested by the Mumbai Police in connection with the Mahadev betting app case. The arrest comes after the Bombay High Court rejected his plea for interim bail, leading to a dramatic 40-hour operation with the assistance of the Chhattisgarh Police.
Sahil Khan, known for his roles in films like 'Style' and 'Excuse Me', as well as his influence on social media platforms, was apprehended after evading authorities after his bail petition was dismissed. He is among 32 individuals under investigation by the Mumbai Police's Cyber Cell for their alleged involvement in illegal transactions related to the Mahadev betting app.
The Special Investigating Team (SIT) is delving into potential links between financial and real estate firms in Chhattisgarh and the promoters of the controversial betting app. Additionally, Sahil Khan's bank accounts, mobile phones, laptops, and other technical devices are being scrutinized as part of the ongoing investigation.
This development comes on the heels of actor Tamannaah Bhatia being summoned by the Maharashtra cyber cell for her alleged promotion of a subsidiary app associated with the Mahadev betting platform during Indian Premier League (IPL) matches.
The Mahadev betting app attracted attention last year when actors Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor, who had endorsed the app in advertisements, were summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for questioning. Operated by Saurabh Chandrakar and Ravi Uppal from Dubai, the app has been the subject of intense scrutiny, with ED officials revealing its central head office location in the UAE.
Furthermore, investigations by the Enforcement Directorate have uncovered connections between the app's operators and individuals in positions of power, including police officials, bureaucrats, and politicians. Regular payments were allegedly made to ensure the app remained undetected by investigative agencies.
As the probe unfolds, the arrests and summonses underscore the multi-faceted nature of the investigation into the Mahadev betting app and its alleged illicit operations, implicating individuals from various sectors including entertainment, business, and politics.
