Digital Desk: A derogatory remark made about Smriti Singh, the widow of Captain Anshuman Singh, who was posthumously awarded the Kirti Chakra for his heroic actions at an Indian Army camp in the Siachen glacier, has sparked outrage on social media. Users are calling for action against the individual responsible for the insensitive comment. The comment was directed at a photograph of Mrs. Singh receiving the award at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Captain Anshuman Singh, serving as a medical officer with 26 Punjab, received the Kirti Chakra after sacrificing his life while rescuing colleagues during a fire caused by a short circuit at the camp. His wife Smriti, along with his mother, received the award from President Droupadi Murmu. While tributes poured in for Captain Singh, one individual's disrespectful comment, labeled as "lewd" by the NCW, prompted widespread condemnation.
The NCW emphasized that the comment by Ahmad K, a Delhi resident, violates Section 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, 2000.
