Nobody is bigger than sports: Sports minister Anurag Thakur reacts to alleged rift between Virat-Roh

New Delhi: Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur retaliated to the alleged rift between India’s star players, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Thakur said nobody is bigger than sports and can’t give out information about what’s happening between the two players.

“Sports is supreme & nobody is bigger than sports. I can’t you give information as to what’s going on between which players in what game. It’s the job of concerned associations. It’ll be better if they give the information.” said the minister during the Khelo India U-21 Women’s Hockey League.

The reaction came after former Indian skipper Mohammad Azharuddin tweeted about the alleged rift between the two Indian captains.

“Virat Kohli has informed that he’s not available for the ODI series and Rohit Sharma is unavailable for the upcoming test. There is no harm in taking a break but the timing has to be better. This just substantiates speculation about the rift. Neither will be giving up the other form of cricket.” Azharuddin had tweeted.

Notably, the split between Rohit and Virat is making rounds after BCCI sacked Virat Kohli as the ODI skipper and handed the responsibility to Rohit Sharma last week. The decision came from BCCI after Kohli stepped down as the skipper of the T20I post ICC T20 World Cup last month.

Rohit on Sunday suffered a hamstring injury after which he was ruled out of the South Africa Test series, in which Kohli will be leading the team. However, now rumours are making rounds that Kohli might step back from the ODI series due to his daughters first birthday.

It is a situation of a profound dilemma among cricket fans. Fans are curious about who will take charge if Kohli steps out of the captainship for the upcoming series.
