Digital Desk: Over six hours have passed since the commencement of voting for the 40-seat assembly in Mizoram and 20 constituencies in Chhattisgarh on Tuesday. As of 1 PM, the Election Commission of India (ECI) reported a turnout of 52.73 percent in Mizoram and 44.56 percent in Chhattisgarh.

In Chhattisgarh, the election process is unfolding under tight security measures. Bastar Range Inspector General Sundarraj Pattilingam stated that elaborate security arrangements have been made, particularly in the Bastar region. Among the over 2,900 polling booths, 600 are situated in high-security zones, each protected by a three-layer security cordon.

The situation took a tense turn in Sukma this morning when Naxals fired at District Reserve Guard (DRG) personnel deployed around 2 kilometers from the Banda polling station. However, swift retaliation by security forces brought the situation under control within 10 minutes. Fortunately, no personnel were harmed, and voting continued as planned.

The high voter turnout demonstrates the enthusiasm and commitment of citizens to exercise their democratic rights despite security challenges in the region. The ECI continues to monitor the situation closely as the day progresses.
