Digital Desk: Janata Dal (Secular) MP Prajwal Revanna was arrested in the early hours of Friday upon his arrival in Bengaluru from Germany. Accused in a sex tape scandal, Revanna had been out of the country since the allegations surfaced. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Karnataka Police, which had been formed to probe the case, apprehended him at the airport and took him to the CID office for interrogation.

The arrest operation was symbolically led by a team of five women police officers, headed by a woman IPS officer, reflecting a strong message from the Karnataka SIT.

Revanna, who is seeking reelection as an NDA candidate from the Hassan Lok Sabha seat, left India in April after explicit video clips allegedly showing him sexually abusing multiple women began circulating in Karnataka. The Hassan constituency went to the polls in the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections on April 26.

So far, three rape cases have been registered against Revanna. Earlier this week, he released a video message stating his intention to appear before the probe team on May 31 and cooperate with the investigation. He also asserted that the accusations against him were fabricated.

In his video message, Revanna claimed he went into "depression and isolation" following the scandal, alleging that "political forces" in Hassan were behind the accusations. He accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and other senior Congress figures of campaigning against him and conspiring politically, which he said contributed to his mental health issues.

Revanna's arrest marks a significant development in the ongoing investigation, with further interrogations expected to shed more light on the case.
