‘Use your mouth’: Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar warns Raghav Chadha over hand gesture
Do opposition MPs have illegitimate demands? Are they saying something wrong? All they're saying is that there needs to be a conversation about the security breach of the nation's most secured structure..

Digital Desk: The chairman of the Rajya Sabha, Jagdeep Dhankhar, reprimanded MP Raghav Chadha of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for staging a protest in the House over the opposition's demand to suspend the day's planned business to address the security breach that occurred in Parliament on Wednesday.

On December 13, when the Chairman refused to authorise the notifications for the suspension of the day's planned business to consider the "serious situation arising out of breach of security" in Parliament, the whole Opposition membership erupted in protest.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Raghav Chadha tried to raise a point of order by making a hand gesture.

Dhankar objected to the gesture, and said, "Mr Chadha, you don't have to do like this (hand gesture) to raise a point of order...use your mouth...don't do it."

Rapping the AAP MP, Dhankhar said, "Use your mouth to say something if you want to. Don't make hand gestures. This is your chance to learn a lot of new things. It appears that you will soon start dancing as well. Take a seat and be silent. This House has already punished you.

An hour before receiving criticism from the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, Raghav Chadha had supported opposition members' requests for a meeting to examine the security breach in the Lok Sabha.

"Do opposition MPs have illegitimate demands? Are they saying something wrong? All they're saying is that there needs to be a conversation about the security breach of the nation's most secured structure.  I think the government should accept the demand. The Indian Parliament, the safest building, is the matter, not any specific party or party politics. If the Parliament is not safe, is the country safe, "AAP MP Raghav Chadha commented on the situation involving the parliamentary security breach.

The Chairman adjourned the proceedings till 2 pm due to the ongoing protest.

Dhankhar asked Floor Leaders Mallikarjun Kharge, Piyush Goyal, and other opposition leaders to meet with him in his chamber before adjourning the session.

The House had witnessed many adjournments on Thursday as well.
