Digital Desk: In a significant development, an idol of Ram Lalla crafted by Mysuru-based sculptor Arun Yogiraj has been chosen for installation at the Ram temple in Ayodhya on January 22, as confirmed by the temple trust's general secretary, Champat Rai.
The stone sculpture, weighing between 150 kg to 200 kg, beautifully portrays a five-year-old Ram Lalla.
Scheduled to be moved into the new temple on January 17, Yogiraj's creation will join the sanctum sanctorum, coexisting with the current idol of Ram Lalla.
The announcement follows Union minister Pralhad Joshi's revelation on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), where he shared, “The idol of Lord Rama, carved by renowned sculptor Yogiraj Arun, will be installed in Ayodhya.”
Arun Yogiraj, a distinguished sculptor from a lineage of five generations of renowned sculptors in Mysore, embarked on his artistic journey influenced by his father and grandfather, who enjoyed the patronage of the King of Mysore.
Despite a brief stint in the corporate sector after pursuing an MBA, Arun's passion for sculpting led him back to the art form in 2008. His portfolio includes remarkable sculptures, such as a 30-feet statue of Subhash Chandra Bose near India Gate.
Former Karnataka chief minister B S Yediyurappa congratulated Arun, expressing pride in the selection of Lord Ram's idol.
The grand consecration ceremony of the Ram temple is set for January 22, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi presiding over the event. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat will join other dignitaries on this momentous occasion.
Over 7,000 individuals have been invited by the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra trust to partake in the historic ceremony, symbolizing a pivotal moment in India's cultural and religious landscape.
