Digital Desk: An encounter between security forces and terrorists erupted in Anantnag, Jammu and Kashmir, on Saturday, leaving one soldier critically injured.
Following an intelligence tip-off regarding the presence of terrorists in the area, security forces conducted search and combing operations in the Kokernag forest region of South Kashmir. The joint operation by security forces and police began early on Saturday.
The clash began when terrorists fired upon the search party, leading to a retaliatory response from the security personnel. Reports suggest that the terrorists entered Anantnag from Doda in the Jammu region.
The joint security forces are currently engaged in a gunfight with a group of heavily armed terrorists hiding in the forest. "The exchange of fire is ongoing, and further details are pending due to the communication challenges in this forested area," officials said.
This encounter in Anantnag is the latest in a series of recent attacks in Jammu and Kashmir. About two weeks ago, one soldier was killed and four others, including a Major, were injured when the Army thwarted an attack by Pakistan's Border Action Team (BAT) along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara district. Prior to that, four Army personnel, including an officer, and a police officer were killed in an encounter with heavily armed terrorists in Doda district. This attack was claimed by 'Kashmir Tigers,' a splinter group of the Pakistan-backed terrorist organization JeM.
