    Sonia Gandhi took the oath of office as a member of parliament........


    Digital desk: Congress leader Sonia Gandhi took oath as a Rajya Sabha MP from Rajasthan on Thursday, taking over the seat that will be empty on April 3 following the term of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will complete his tenure. This occurred just a few days before the seven phases of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

    In the presence of Speaker of the House Piyush Goyal and Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi took the oath of office as a member of parliament. In attendance were her daughter Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, secretary general P C Mody, and deputy chairman of the Rajya Sabha Harivansh.

    After serving for 25 years in the Lok Sabha, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge expressed her best wishes for the new beginnings in the Upper House in a post on X (previously Twitter).

    Kharge wrote in his X post, "My best wishes to the Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson, Smt. Sonia Gandhi begins her new innings, by taking oath in the Rajya Sabha, today. Her courageous resilience and dignified grace, in the wake of adversity and upheaval, shall continue to guide our Parliamentary strategy."

    “She has completed 25 years serving the Lok Sabha, and now my fellow members and I await her presence in the Upper House. I wish her a fruitful tenure ahead," he added.

    Among the 14 who took the oath of office as Rajya Sabha members on Thursday was Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. Vaishnaw was sworn in as a member of the Upper House from Odisha. 

    Today, BJP leader R.P. N Singh from Uttar Pradesh, Congress leader Ajay Maken from Karnataka, and BJP member Samik Bhattacharya from West Bengal also took the oath of office as Rajya Sabha MPs. In the new Parliament House building, Vice President and Rajya Sabha chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar gave them the oath.

    Gola Babu Rao, Yerum Venkat Subba Reddy, and Medha Raghunath Reddy, the leaders of the YSRCP, also took an oath of office as representatives of the state of Andhra Pradesh.
