Digital Desk: A Spanish tourist was allegedly gang raped in Jharkhand's Dumka district on Saturday, officials said on Saturday. According to them, a special investigation team (SIT) has been established to look into the incident, three people have been taken into custody about it, and a manhunt has been initiated to find the remaining suspects.
The incident occurred on Friday night in Kurumahat in the Hansdiha police station area, about 300 kilometers from Ranchi, the state capital. A Spanish tourist couple was spending the night in a tent tent.
The couple was traveling to Bihar and then Nepal after arriving in Dumka, Bangladesh, on two motorcycles.
"Forensic teams have visited the location as part of an ongoing inquiry. In relation to the event, three people have been taken into custody, and a manhunt has been initiated to find the remaining suspects. "
"All relevant legal action will be taken and a SIT (special investigation team) has been formed," a top official informed PTI.
According to the official, the survivor has been admitted to a hospital.
The Hansdiha police patrolling squad discovered two people by the side of the road on Friday night at approximately 11 p.m., according to Dumka Superintendent of Police Pitambar Singh Kherwar.
"The patrol crew felt as though something had occurred to them. They were speaking in Spanish, so the officers were unable to understand them. But, presuming they required medical attention, the cops took them to a nearby hospital " he said.
He added that the Spanish couple had reported the sexual assault to the medics.
"We were notified of the event on Saturday at 1:30 a.m. As soon as we got the information, we began the inquiry. We had a conversation with the victim. After that, we arrested a few individuals, and when we questioned them, they came clean about their involvement. The accused adopted a few other monikers as well. We've come together as a team, and we're conducting raids to find the other suspect. In this regard, we are also enlisting the assistance of the CID and a forensic team," he stated.
The SP claimed that no prior notice of any foreign visitors arriving in Dumka had been given to the police.
The woman, about 28, and her 64-year-old husband were receiving treatment at Phulo Jhano Medical College and Hospital in Dumka, where they arrived on motorcycles from Saraiyahat Community Health Center, covering a distance of about 60 km with police escort, according to Dumka Civil Surgeon Baccha Prasad Singh, who spoke with PTI.
"They are receiving medical attention at the hospital and are both safe. The man's wounds are not very serious. The victim will undergo a medical examination by a medical board led by Dr. Anupuran Purti, the superintendent of the medical college, which will include three gynecologists, a radiologist, an orthopedic surgeon, and a dentist "said the civil surgeon.
According to a second officer who spoke on the condition of anonymity, the incident involved seven or eight young people from the area.
According to the official, a major manhunt is underway to find the offenders.
Former chief minister and leader of the Jharkhand BJP Babulal Marandi accused the police of being incompetent and urged harsh punishment.
"Who would desire to visit Jharkhand when things like this happen with foreigners? Here, the apparatus of law and order has crumbled. He declared that the cops should face strict consequences. On Saturday, the last day of the budget session, the matter was brought up in the Jharkhand Assembly.
Amit Mandal, a BJP legislator, brought up the matter in the Assembly and asked that Dumka SP be suspended immediately and that an inquiry committee be established.
"The incident has brought embarrassment and shame not only to Jharkhand but also to the entire country... the culprits are being provided political patronage," he claimed.
State Minister Mithilesh Thakur expressed regret for the occurrence by saying, "It is regrettable. Strict measures will be taken against those responsible for the crime, and they will not escape punishment."
"It is a very sad situation and an embarrassment to all," stated Congress MLA Amba Prasad outside the chamber. Strict action will be taken against those individuals, and our administration will not abandon them."
Coincidentally, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in Jharkhand on the day of the alleged crime, and he had voiced grave concerns about the state's deteriorating law and order situation as well as extortion.
The prime minister, taking aim at the state's ruling regime, had claimed at a rally that the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) is rife with corruption and that infiltration has come from its policies of appeasement.
'Jam Kar Khao' is what JMM stands for. The PM had stated, "Law and order has taken a back seat as extortion is at its peak and appeasement is on the rise."
