Tihar jail denies AAP's claims of Arvind Kejriwal's weight loss since his arrest

Digital desk: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) sources claimed that Arvind Kejriwal, who is being held in Delhi's Tihar jail on allegations of a liquor scandal, is having health problems and is rapidly losing weight. According to sources, the Delhi Chief Minister has lost about 4.5 kg since being placed in the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) custody.

Doctors at Tihar Jail have stated that Arvind Kejriwal is healthy and that the incident won't affect him. Doctors have expressed no worries about Kejriwal's health and noted that he is going about his everyday work and eating.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was named by the Enforcement Department (ED) as the "kingpin" and "key conspirator" of the "excise scam" on Tuesday. The ED further stated that there were "reasons to believe" that Kejriwal had committed money laundering based on data in its possession.

As the political party was the "major beneficiary" of the proceeds of the crime, the ED said that Kejriwal had committed the crime on behalf of the party, rejecting the AAP leader's petition to have his arrest by the agency in the money laundering case related to the "scam" challenged.

"Arvind Kejriwal, Chief Minister of NCT of Delhi, is the kingpin and key conspirator of the Delhi Excise Scam in collusion with Ministers of Delhi Govt, AAP leaders and other persons... Kejriwal was directly involved in the formulation of the Excise Policy 2021-22."

"This policy was being drafted considering the favors to be granted to the South Group and was formed in collusion with Vijay Nair, Manish Sisodia, and members representatives of the South Group," said the response.

The AAP claimed that because Kejriwal was involved in the money laundering offence, section 70 of the PMLA 2002 applied to the offences.

It also added, "The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is the major beneficiary of the proceeds of crime generated in the Delhi Liquor Scam. Arvind Kejriwal was and is not only the brain behind the AAP but also controls its major activities, he was also one of the founding members and was also involved in the decision-making of the policy as evident from the statements of the witnesses."

Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma is scheduled to hear the petition today. When Kejriwal's arrest was challenged and he was subsequently remanded to the ED's custody, the High Court declined to grant him interim relief on March 27. The court reasoned that the case raised significant issues that could not be "summarily" decided without first obtaining the agency's opinion.
