Digital Desk: Two Enforcement Directorate officers were arrested for allegedly taking bribes in Rajasthan. The two officers allegedly asked ₹ 15 lahks in order to thwart the filing of a complaint involving chit-fund matters.
According to a statement from the Rajasthan Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), the two ED officers were apprehended while taking the money.
According to the complainant, Naval Kishore Meena and Babulal Meena allegedly took the bribe in a chit fund case from Manipur. The ED officers were taking the bribe in return for dismissing the case, not arresting, and seizing the property, an official statement by the Rajasthan ACB said.
"A team of the ACB caught the two ED inspectors accepting ₹ 15 lakh. The ACB is searching the premises of the ED inspectors," the anti-corruption body said.
Vaibhav, the son of Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, was interrogated by the ED for nine hours on October 30 in connection with a suspected violation of foreign exchange rules.
The Gehlot government denounced the ED action as a political vengeance just one month before the assembly election, scheduled for November 25.
Gehlot has stated that the purported abuse by the BJP-led central government has caused the central agencies to lose their trust.
"Central agencies have no credibility now. It is a worrying situation. This is not about my son or the state Congress president. Aatank macha rakha hai desh mein," he said.
The Modi government is allegedly abusing central agencies to target opposition parties and leaders in the run-up to the national election in 2024. One such leader is Delhi Chief Minister Arvind, who is being questioned by the ED in connection with the liquor policy issue involving the national capital.
