Digital Desk: Three female students from Visva-Bharati University in West Bengal have filed an FIR against a guest professor, claiming that the professor sought sexual favours in exchange for their passing marks on semester examinations.
In their complaint, the trio of Persian, Urdu, and Islamic Studies department students claimed that the defendant had occasionally inappropriately touched them and sent lewd messages to each of them on WhatsApp.
When students approach to the central university's Internal Complaints Committee (ICC), an official from Visva-Bharati informed the PTI news agency that "it will look into the charges and take appropriate action."
The students claimed that if the three girls accepted his approaches, the accused guest professor had even promised to assist them with their semester examinations.
The PTI news agency was provided with a copy of the complaint on Saturday. The case was filed at the Santiniketan police station on March 28 and was registered in the ACJM, Bolpur, court.
According to a police officer, investigations are being conducted.
The teacher in question, however, refuted the accusations and claimed he was framed.
"I have spent a lot of time teaching here. I have never before been the target of such accusations," he added.
Spokesman for the Visva-Bharati University Faculty Association Sudipta Bhattacharya stated that a thorough investigation into the claims needs to be done as soon as possible.'
