Digital Desk: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has undertaken a significant administrative shake-up by transferring eight District Magistrates (DMs) and twelve Superintendent of Police (SP) officers across key districts in Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh.
This strategic move, a part of the Commission's routine evaluation, was decided during a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Election Commissioner Shri Rajiv Kumar, alongside Election Commissioners Shri Gyanesh Kumar and Shri Sukhbir Singh Sandhu.
The officials transferred are as follows:
1. Assam: Udalgiri's DM
2. Bihar: Bhojpur and Nawada's DMs and SPs
3. Jharkhand: Deoghar's SP, with directives to fill vacancies in various roles
4. Odisha: Cuttack & Jagatsinghpur's DMs, and SPs in Angul, Behrampur, Khurda, Rourkela, as well as DCP Cuttack & IG Central
5. Andhra Pradesh: Krishna, Ananthpuramu, and Tirupati's DMs, along with SPs in Prakasham, Palnadu, Chittoor, Ananthpuramu, Nellore districts, and IGP Guntur Range
The transferred officials are instructed to facilitate a smooth handover of responsibilities to their successors and are relieved from election duties until the conclusion of General Elections 2024. The respective state administrations are urged to propose panels of IAS and IPS officers for the Commission's consideration.
