Gujarat University tells 7 Afghan students to leave amidst controversy over hostel outdoor namaz

The intervention of the Afghan consulate and Ministry of External Affairs clarified that the students either completed their studies or have pending tasks

Digital Desk: Following a confrontation over open-campus prayers, Gujarat University has directed seven Afghan students to vacate hostel rooms, with five complying. The dispute arose when Afghan students engaged in an altercation with a local group regarding open-air Namaz within the hostel premises.

The intervention of the Afghan consulate and Ministry of External Affairs clarified that the students either completed their studies or have pending tasks. University regulations prohibit the use of hostel facilities once students finish their coursework.

Among the seven students, four have completed their courses, and three have administrative tasks pending. Dr. Nirja Gupta, the vice-chancellor of Gujarat University, confirmed that five students have already left, and the remaining two are expected to comply.

"These students either have completed their courses or have formalities, such as obtaining transcripts or certificates, pending that do not require their presence on campus. University regulations prohibit students from using hostel facilities once their studies are concluded. All seven students fall into this category," explained a senior GU official as quoted by the Times of India. "Four have finished their courses, and three have only administrative tasks remaining."

The university has notified the Afghan consulate regarding the matter, which was discussed during their recent visit to the campus. This incident underscores the importance of adhering to university regulations and resolving conflicts through diplomatic channels.
