Hema Malini among 28 women inducted into BJP’s candidate list

Hema being the least Lok Sabha session attender and aged over 75 is one of the exemptions BJP made in the list of candidates chosen for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Digital Desk: Hema Malini is nominated from Mathura Lok Sabha constituency for the 3rd consecutive time. She has been contesting for the seat since 2014. Hema being the least Lok Sabha session attender and aged over 75 is one of the exemptions the BJP made in the list of candidates chosen for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Hema Malini is among the 28 women nominated for the list.

Hema Malini had beaten Jayant Chaudhary of the RLD by an overwhelming margin of 3,30,743 votes beginning in 2014. Then, she defeated RLD’s Kunwar Narendra Singh in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, retaining the Mathura seat. Hema Malini won 2,93,471 votes against Singh, according to data from the Election Commission's website.

According to a report published by PRS India, Hema Malini’s attendance in the Lok Sabha sessions was only 49.26 per cent. However, this data does not indicate that the superstar’s performance on the ground is bad. Despite all the odds, the BJP’s top leadership believed in her again.

BJP National General Secretary Vinod Tawde, who unveiled the list, expressed the party's confidence that, with a far larger mandate, it would form the government for a third term under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's direction.

It is expected that the Central Election Committee (CEC) will meet again the following week to discuss further names.
