Major relief for AAP: Apex Court grants bail to Sanjay Singh in Delhi excise policy case

Singh would be entitled to undertake political activities while being out on bail...

Digital Desk: The Supreme Court issued an order on Tuesday for the release of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh on bail. The decision was made due to the pending nature of the trial in a money laundering case related to the Delhi excise policy case. Sanjay Singh was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in October 2024, following a search at his residence in Delhi.

The apex court ordered Singh's release after the ED said that it had no objection regarding the same. "Nothing has been recovered; there is no trace," the top court was quoted as saying by LiveLaw.

The three-judge bench, comprising Justices Sanjiv Khanna, Dipankar Dutta, and PB Varale, said Singh would be entitled to undertake political activities while being out on bail. The top court further mentioned that the order would not be treated as a precedent.

India Today quoted Sanjay Singh's mother, Radhika Singh, as saying, "I am very happy. He is innocent, and now that the court has granted him bail, I am very happy."

The bench clarified that Singh would be entitled to indulge in political activities during the bail period. Singh is not supposed to make any public statements about the case, the court added.
