Digital Desk: Delhi woke up to a thin layer of fog on Sunday which led to low visibility in some parts of the city. The IMD went on to say that the minimum temperatures in the national capital were recorded at 12 °C at 7 AM. Visibility at Safdarjung and Palam was 800 meters, while airports reported visibility below 500 meters at 5:30 AM.
Cold temperature persist in Leh right now with temperature as low as -11.5°C while Shimla recorded temperature at 4.4°C. The weather condition of Jammu and Kashmir and even Srinagar is recorded 1°C, while Gulmarg is recorded at -6.4°C, Jammu at 7.4°C, Pahalgam at -5.2°C, and Kupwara at 0.2°C as of 9:30 AM.
Air quality of the national capital was recorded at an AQI of 230 at 9 am on Sunday and comes under the ‘poor’ category. While on, Saturday it was 179 in the early morning at 7 AM. The stations ITO and Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium registered an AQI of 243, while DU North Campus recorded 216 and RK Puram at 269. AQI ranges between 201- 300 are considered poor while AQI greater than 300 are considered as very poor or even worse.
The IMD has further resorted to an Orange alert for Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Uttarakhand and East Madhya Pradesh because of heavy to very heavy rainfall and snowfall along with hailstorms with a Western Disturbance (WD) in combination with moist spell from the Arabian Sea, the Bay of Bengal.
IMD Scientist, Soma Sen Roy cautioned of a 3-5°C temperature drop, with severe cold wave conditions that affect Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan.
