NIA team attacked in Bengal's East Midnapore, 1 officer injured

Police officers arrived in Bhupatinagar, where the NIA team has joined the two arrested individuals

Digital Desk: On Saturday, an NIA team was attacked while conducting a raid in Bengal's East Medinipur area in connection with a 2022 bomb blast investigation. An anti-terror agency officer was injured in the attack on Bhupatinagar.

According to initial reports, bricks were thrown at the NIA team's car, causing the windshield to be damaged. The incident occurred at 5.30 am when locals surrounded the vehicle and threw stones at it. A top police official confirmed that one of the NIA's officers was hurt.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has also filed a police report in this regard, it said. A large detachment of central police officers arrived in Bhupatinagar, where the NIA team has joined the two arrested individuals, according to authorities.

On December 3, 2022, an explosion swept through a house with a thatched roof in Bhupatinagar, killing three people.

Last month, the NIA summoned eight Trinamool Congress leaders for questioning in relation to the bomb blast.

The TMC accused the BJP of orchestrating the NIA's actions. The central investigative agency summoned the eight to appear before its officials after they ignored an earlier summons to visit the NIA office in New Town, close here, on March 28.

According to an NIA source, the local police station was aware of the raid ahead of time, but necessary security procedures were not implemented.

According to police sources, the NIA team arrived in Bhupatinagar around 5.30 a.m., considerably earlier than expected, and then asked for reinforcements.

The police have started an inquiry into the attack, and the situation is currently under control.
