Over 79,000 Violations Reported on ECI’s C-Vigil App After Code of Conduct Announcement

Of the complaints received, the majority (73% of cases) are related to illegal hoardings and banners

Digital Desk: The C-Vigil app, launched by the Election Commission of India (ECI), has proven to be a vital tool for voters, with over 79,000 violations reported since the announcement of the Lok Sabha elections 2024 code of conduct. This app, aimed at ensuring free, fair, and inducement-free polls, has disposed of 99% of cases, demonstrating its efficacy.

Designed to empower citizens, the user-friendly C-Vigil app enables individuals to report election code violations swiftly and effortlessly. With over 89% of complaints resolved within 100 minutes, the app prioritises speed and transparency, key pillars of its functionality.

Of the complaints received, the majority (73% of cases) are related to illegal hoardings and banners, followed by 1400 complaints regarding the distribution of money, gifts, and liquor.

Complaints regarding defacement of property, display of firearms, and campaigning beyond prohibited periods have been addressed promptly.

The app's success can be attributed to its seamless integration of technology and citizen engagement. Through real-time reporting via audio, photos, or videos, coupled with a 100-minute countdown for timely responses, users can effectively document violations. Geo-tagging ensures precise location identification, aiding swift action by authorities.

Anonymity is preserved, allowing citizens to report complaints without fear. The app's timestamping and live photo/video features provide irrefutable evidence of violations, assisting election authorities in decision-making and action planning.

The C-Vigil app is part of the ECI's broader strategy to harness technology for electoral oversight and streamline processes. Its GIS-based dashboard aids in filtering out frivolous complaints, reducing the workload on election machinery, and ensuring efficient allocation of resources.

The C-Vigil app stands as a beacon of democracy, empowering citizens to uphold the integrity of elections through digital vigilance. Its user-friendly interface, coupled with robust features, makes it a vital tool in the pursuit of free and fair elections.
