PM Modi Condemns TMC for Attack on NIA Officials: Calls for Upholding Law & Order

NIA team was attacked while conducting a raid in Bengal's East Medinipur area in connection with a 2022 bomb blast investigation

Digital Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi strongly criticised the Trinamool Congress for the recent attack on National Investigation Agency (NIA) officials in West Bengal's East Midnapore district. Addressing a rally in Jalpaiguri on Sunday, Modi accused the TMC of undermining law and order to protect corrupt leaders, emphasising the need to uphold the country's constitution and legal framework.

“TMC wants its corrupt leaders to get a free licence to commit crimes. So, when central investigation agencies arrive here, they attack and threaten the team. The TMC is the government that is hell-bent on destroying law and order,” the prime minister said at a rally in Jalpaiguri, as quoted by the Hindustan Times.

On Saturday, an NIA team was attacked while conducting a raid in Bengal's East Medinipur area in connection with a 2022 bomb blast investigation. An anti-terror agency officer was injured in the attack on Bhupatinagar.

According to initial reports, bricks were thrown at the NIA team's car, causing the windshield to be damaged. The incident occurred at 5.30 am when locals surrounded the vehicle and threw stones at it. A top police official confirmed that one of the NIA's officers was hurt.

Additionally, TMC's general secretary Abhishek Banerjee implied a collusion between the BJP and NIA in Bengal, raising concerns over fair play ahead of the upcoming elections scheduled in phases until June 1, with vote counting slated for June 4.
