Digital Desk: Several schools in Ahmedabad were thrust into a state of alarm on Monday as they received threatening emails indicating potential bomb threats.
Among the targeted institutions were Delhi Public School (Bopal), Anand Niketan (Bopal), Asia English School (Vastrapur), Calorex School (Ghatlodiya), Amrita Vidyalaya (Ghatlodiya), New Noble School, and ONGC Kendriya Vidyalaya (Chandkheda). Promptly, authorities alerted the police control room, but with the schools closed for summer vacations, immediate action regarding child safety was limited.
Police teams swiftly responded, dispatching bomb squads to various schools across the city upon receipt of the threatening emails. Investigations revealed that the emails originated from a domain located outside India, prompting a wider probe into the source.
Reassuring the public, bomb squad officer B Yadav emphasized that there was no immediate cause for panic, with law enforcement agencies actively engaged in ensuring safety. However, the incident coincided with the eve of the Lok Sabha elections in Gujarat, heightening concerns over security.
This incident echoes a recent spate of similar threats targeting schools, including over 150 institutions in Delhi-NCR and one in Lucknow. Despite the widespread disruption caused by these threats, investigations concluded that they were hoaxes. Preliminary findings linked the IP addresses used in the Delhi-NCR threats to Russia, with suspicions that VPNs were employed to conceal the true origins.
As authorities in Ahmedabad continue their investigation, the incident underscores the need for vigilance and robust security measures in safeguarding educational institutions against such malicious threats.
