Digital Desk: In its bid to protect the ladies of Uttar Pradesh, the UP Women’s Commission has provided officials with recommendations to reduce such co duct. During a recent meeting on October 28, chaired by Babita Chouhan, the chairperson of the commission suggested that women’s measurements should only be taken by female tailors. Meanwhile, escalated security in the form of CCTV cameras in the tailoring shops and the salons has also been advised.

This reform proposal also applies to gyms and fitness centers, according to the Commission. This presupposes that female trainers should be hired for females only, thereby a move Chouhan feels could reduce harassment, a vice many women complained of within the gyms. For this safety measure, police verification of all trainers has also been recommended. The female fitness enthusiasts who wanted their trainers to be males would be required to sign on paper their decision.

 The transportation safety for young girls is another area of concern that is being pointed out by the commission. Chouhan suggested that school buses that transport female students must also have female employees on board, and this was to conduct security during travels. On the same note, the CCTV cameras should also be provided in coaching centers that admit female students to prevent misconduct in the center.

 The Women’s Commission has explained these measures, stating that they are useful to protect women and young girls in public and private spheres alike. Chouhan said that these measures were implemented following complaints of sexual harassment stressing the safety of women across the state when the commission was formed. The developed guidelines are now awaiting approval at the state level, as provided in the proposed guidelines section.
