Digital Desk: During a recent visit to Jorhat, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra faced a sharp rebuke from Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who took a jibe at the Gandhi family and approved prioritizing wildlife tourism over political rallies. Sarma compared the Gandhis to 'Amul Baby', suggesting that visiting Kaziranga to observe wildlife would be a more worthwhile use of time than attending political events.

Sarma's comments come amid the charged atmosphere of the upcoming Assam Assembly elections. Despite a reported turnout of around 2000 to 3000 individuals at Priyanka Gandhi's rally in Jorhat, Sarma dismissed it as insignificant, emphasizing the allure of wildlife tourism in Kaziranga over political gatherings.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's roadshow in Assam commenced from Titabor Chariali within the Jorhat constituency, covering approximately 2 kilometers. The event aimed to strengthen the campaign for Congress Lok Sabha candidate Gaurav Gogoi, who is in a head-to-head battle against the incumbent BJP Member of Parliament, Topon Gogoi.

Accompanied by Gaurav Gogoi and Bhupen Borah, President of the All Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, alongside other state leaders, Priyanka Gandhi traversed the route, acknowledging the crowds lining both sides of the road from the campaign vehicle.

Starting her day at Jorhat airport, Gandhi made her way to Titabor, the electoral turf of former chief minister Tarun Gogoi and a pivotal segment of the Jorhat Lok Sabha constituency.

In her address, Gandhi highlighted the distinctive cultural tapestry of the North Eastern states and criticized the BJP government's policies, which she claimed threatened to dismantle that identity. She also expressed concern over the burdens of inflation and unemployment, emphasizing the Congress party's five guarantees aimed at providing relief and strengthening the youth.

The clash between political campaigning and wildlife tourism underscores the diverse interests and priorities of the electorate in Assam. While politicians vie for attention and support, the natural beauty and biodiversity of places like Kaziranga continue to draw visitors, showcasing the complex tapestry of issues and concerns in the region.
