Himanta Biswa Sarma defends BJP LS candidate Kangana Ranaut on her remarks about the first PM of India
Sarma referred to this as "Ghulami ki Mansikta," and he went on to criticize the propensity to understand history from the perspective of colonialists..........

Digital desk: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, supported Kangana Ranaut, the Lok Sabha candidate after she was made fun of her remarks regarding India's first prime minister.

This comes after Kangana said in a widely shared viral video that Jawaharlal Nehru was not India's first prime minister after independence but rather Subhash Chandra Bose.

Assam Chief Minister, using his X noted that the Azad Hind Government was founded in 1943 by Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, over four years before Jawaharlal Nehru's rise to power, and that nine nations had acknowledged it as the official Government of India.

Sarma referred to this as "Ghulami ki Mansikta," and he went on to criticize the propensity to understand history from the perspective of colonialists.

Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote on his X, "On 21 October 1943, Netaji established the Azad Hind Govt, of which he was the head, nearly 4 years before Pt Nehru took oath as Prime Minister following transfer of power. Nine countries recognized the Azad Hind Govt as the legitimate Government of India. This subconscious urge to interpret history on the lines of colonialists is called “Ghulami ki Mansikta”.

Few people spark as much controversy and debate in Indian politics and public conversation as Kangana Ranaut. The Bollywood actress-turned-politician, known for her blunt demeanor and uncompromising opinions, is currently at the heart of another contentious debate, this one centered on historical facts.

Kangana Ranaut, who recently joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as an MP candidate from Mandi, made a statement during a recent appearance at a television event that has caused a lot of controversy.

“Pehle mujhe ye baat aaj clear karne dijiye. Jab hume azaadi mili to the first Prime Minister of India, Subhash Chandra Bose, woh kahan gae? (Let me clear this first. When we gained independence, where did the first Prime Minister of India, Subhash Chandra Bose, go)” When the host reminded her that Bose was not the PM of India, Kangana floated a theory. “He wasn't, but why? Where did he go? How was he made to disappear?”

She claimed that despite fighting for India's independence against Germany and Japan, SC Bose was denied permission to enter India. Even though Ranaut strongly defended her claim, it conflicts with accepted historical accounts. Respected liberation warrior Subhash Chandra Bose did play a significant role in India's fight for independence.

But he never took up the position of prime minister. Following India's independence in 1947, Jawaharlal Nehru—a prominent figure in the Indian National Congress and a staunch advocate of independence—was named the nation's first prime minister. As expected, Kangana's remarks have sparked a rush of responses, with many people taking to the internet to express their shock and disgust at her revised interpretation of history.

The factual mistakes made in her statement have been brought to light by an upsurge of sarcastic and critical comments on social media.

One Twitter user sarcastically remarked, “According to Kangana Ranaut, India got independence in 2014, Netaji Bose was the first PM of independent India, and Sardar Patel wasn’t made PM because he didn’t know English. For more such jokes over the next 5 years, voters in Mandi should vote for Kangana.”

Kangana Ranaut is not bothered by the criticism and keeps passionately defending her viewpoint.

Her comments have sparked concerns about the consequences of historical distortion, though, especially when it comes from well-known public personalities.

One thing is certain despite the ongoing debates: Kangana Ranaut's love of controversy guarantees that her statements, regardless of how controversial, will continue to get attention from the public and spark heated conversations.
