Digital Desk: Twelve opposition political parties of Assam on Thursday held a meeting at Hotel Lily in Guwahati.
The parties discussed the important topic of seat-sharing for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, slated to be held in April-May of 2024.
The twelve parties that participate in the meet are Raijor Dal, CPI (M), Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP), CPI, CPI (ML), Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Jatiya Dal, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Trinamool Congress (TMC), and Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC).
The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has drawn up a list of 84 probable candidates for the LS polls and the list has been forwarded to the All India Congress Committee (AICC) for approval.
The APCC states that other considerations will be taken into account when selecting the candidate. The APCC leadership has stated that loyalty to the party leadership will be an additional consideration for the final decision this time.
According to sources, the other opposition parties are not pleased with the APCC's decision to field candidates for each of the state's 14 Lok Sabha seats, and they discussed the issue at their meeting on Thursday.
Earlier on October 25, an in-depth and comprehensive discussion regarding the alliance of twelve (12) opposition political parties of Assam was held at the Head Office of Raijor Dal.
The Steering Committee of Raijor Dal has adopted a resolution based on consensus that Raijor Dal would not contest the general elections of 2024 from any constituency of Assam and would fully support the candidates proposed by the twelve (12) opposition political parties for the fourteen (14) Lok Sabha seats of Assam and ensure their victory most emphatically.
The Steering Committee is hopeful that the decision of Raijor Dal would inspire the opposition political parties of Assam to unitedly fight against the BJP and motivate them to make the maximum sacrifice and place the interest of the Country, Nation and people beyond party ideology and defeat the BJP.
