Digital Desk: Today, Mamata Banerjee made a statement that many
have linked to the controversy over her party's MP Mahua Moitra's remarks about
Goddess Kali, stating that "people make errors but they can be
mended."
"While at work, mistakes are made, but they may be fixed.
Some people suddenly start shouting because they fail to notice all the good
effort. Negativity damages our brain cells, so let's adopt an upbeat attitude
"At a gathering in Kolkata, the chief minister of West Bengal said.
Multiple FIRs have been filed against Mahua Moitra for her
remarks on Goddess Kali during a media event. She was asked to respond to the
controversy around a movie poster that Leena Manimekalai published that showed
the Goddess smoking.
The MP had stated that as everyone is free to worship God
however they see fit, she had every right to imagine Goddess Kali as a
"meat-eating and alcohol-accepting goddess."
"For instance, when people perform puja in Sikkim or
Bhutan, they offer whisky to their god. Now, if you travel to Uttar Pradesh and
claim that you provide whisky as prasad to your god, they will accuse you of
blasphemy "She spoke.
"Deity Kali is a meat-eating, alcohol-accepting goddess in
my opinion. And if you visit Tarapith, a significant Shakti peeth in the
Birbhum area of West Bengal, you will witness sadhus smoking. That is the Kali
that people revere (there). I have the freedom to think of Kali in that way
because I practise Hinduism and worship Kali "Ms. Moitra remarked.
"I have the freedom to do so (imagine a goddess who eats meat),
just as you have the freedom to worship your god as a vegetarian who wears
white clothes."
The Trinamool has rebuked the remarks and distanced itself from
them.
"The statements @MahuaMoitra made at the
#IndiaTodayConclaveEast2022 and her opinions on Goddess Kali were made in her
personal capacity and are in NO WAY OR FORM ENDORSE BY THE PARTY. The All India
Trinamool Congress vehemently rejects such remarks "Tweets from the event.
She needs to be arrested, according to the BJP. In Madhya
Pradesh, which is governed by the BJP, a FIR has been filed accusing her of
hurting religious sensibilities, and additional politicians have promised to
file charges.
"I do not want to live in a country where the majority
of people avoid talking about religion because of the BJP's rigid, patriarchal,
Brahminical image of Hinduism. I will fight for this till the end. File your
FIRs; we'll see you in all the courts; "Mahua Moitra tweeted
I dare the BJP to provide evidence from any location in the
nation that anything I said was incorrect, she said.
