Member of Parliament from Arunachal Pradesh and Union Minister for Law and Justice Kiren Rijiju lauded the central government's efforts for giving recognition to twelve tribal communities from Arunachal Pradesh.
In the ongoing Parliament Monsoon session, Lok Sabha passed through a voice vote The Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order (Amendment) Bill, 2021, which seeks to amend the constitutional list of Scheduled Tribes as recommended by Arunachal Pradesh. The tribes which are to be given ST status are Monpa, Sajolang (Miji), Sartang, Memba, Nocte, Tangsa, Tutsa, Wancho, Tai-Khamti, Mishmi-Kaman (Miju), Idu (Mishmi), and Taraon (Digaru).
For the welfare of the Adivasis, the Narendra Modi government has given a new identity to the tribes. Since the time of the British, some tribes in Arunachal Pradesh have always been kept hidden. Representing lakhs of Adivasi people from Arunachal Pradesh, the opposition MP’s are urged not to object to the bill, Kiren Rijiju said.
Taking to Twitter, Kiren Rijiju said that this is a historic day for the people of Arunachal Pradesh as, after 74 years, India is going to recognize the tribes.
