Digital Desk: Among Assam’s 14 sitting MPs, 3 have criminal cases against them, or 21% of Assam’s MPs have criminal cases. All three are classified as serious criminal charges, according to the ADR report.
A total of 10 MPs are crorepati; Dhubri MP Badaruddin Ajmal has the highest assets worth 78,80,64,044 (78 crore +), and Gauhati MP Queen Oja secures the second richest sitting MP of Assam with 63,02,19,570 (63 crore +) worth of assets. Pradyut Bordoloi, Rajdeep Roy, Horen Sing Bey, Pallab Lochan Das, Pradan Baruah, Gaurav Gogoi, Naba Kumar Sarania, and Topon Kumar Gogoi are crorepatis.

Independent candidate Naba Kumar Sarania has 14 serious IPC charges against him, totaling 5 registered cases. BJP’s Horen Sing Bey has been charged with 12 serious IPC charges, totaling 2 cases against him. AIUDF chief Badaruddin Ajmal has a total of 7 cases, including 6 serious IPC sections. These cases range from murder to robbery to kidnapping.
According to the research by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), there are criminal proceedings against up to 225 current members of the Lok Sabha. This makes up about 44% of all the MPs who are currently in office in the departing Lok Sabha. The study was made public before the 18th Lok Sabha elections.
225 (44%) of the 514 Lok Sabha members currently in office who were examined filed criminal complaints against one another. There were 149 sitting MPs (or 29%) who had significant criminal cases filed against them.
Some of these serious cases are related to murder, attempt to murder, communal disharmony, kidnapping, and crimes against women.
