Digital Desk: In a major crackdown on corruption within the bureaucratic ranks, the Assam Government has suspended a total of 21 civil servants so far in connection with the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) cash-for-job scam. The suspensions were confirmed by official sources on Friday, shedding light on the extent of malpractices that have plagued the state's recruitment process.
Among the suspended officers, 11 belong to the Assam Police Service (APS), four are Assam Civil Service (ACS) officers, and the rest include an Excise Inspector, an ARCS officer, and three Assistant Employment Officers.
The suspended officers have been identified as follows:
According to the suspension notifications issued by the Personnel department of the Assam Government, these officers benefited from anomalies and malpractices orchestrated by the APSC. Their appointments were allegedly secured by the enhancement of their originally scored marks in the final tabulation sheet, leading to the declaration of final results.
The notification emphasized that the recruitment of APS officers based on APSC recommendations is illegal and constitutes gross misconduct, corruption, and moral turpitude. Considering the ongoing investigation into criminal offenses, the government deemed it unfit for these officers to continue in their present posts, as it may not be in the interest of public service and could potentially cause embarrassment to the government.
