Assam By-Poll: Yet another complaint filed by Debabrata Saikia against BJP minister

Guwahati: The poll bugle has been announced and so the preparation for the upcoming by-polls in Assam. But even before the poll campaigns begin, political parties have begun taking dig on each other thus starting the poll battle.

In such an instance, Congress leader Debabrata Saikia complained to the Chief Election Commissioner against Assam minister Ashok Singhal for violating the Model of Conduct while participating in an election rally at Gossaigaon constituency.

In the letter to CEC, the Congress leader wrote, “Ashok Singhal has indulged himself into impermissible activities while participating in the election rally at Gossaigaon constituency. The Minister stated that there will be no development in their constituency if people didn’t vote for BJP in the coming by-election.”

“Moreover, the minister also said that all the developmental works will not be carried out if the people didn’t vote to BJP, asking publically to give one hand and take with one hand.” the letter added.

Further, Saikia wrote, “It is very sad to hear such unconstitutional remark under a democratic system. There is a provision of equal development for all, irrespective of race, religion, and language. So, I appeal you to issue an order barring Ashok Singhal from campaigning in the election in light of violating the code of conduct.”

Earlier, Debabrata Saikia appealed to CEC Commissioner Anup Chandra Pandey to bar Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma from campaigning for the upcoming by-poll in the five assembly constituencies Mariani, Thowra, Gossaigaon, Bhabaipur, and Tamulpur.
