Digital Desk: In an announcement on December 18, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma unveiled the transformative impact of the Rs 3,000 crore Asom Mala initiative. Taking to the microblogging site X, Chief Minister Sarma detailed the ambitious project's objective—to weave a 1,000-kilometer-long corridor of roads and bridges, significantly enhancing all-weather and high-speed intra-state connectivity.
Under the Asom Mala initiative, the Government of Assam is committed to the construction, refurbishment, and extension of roads across the state. This extensive network is anticipated to serve as the lifeline of the fast-growing state economy, bringing people together and bridging distances.
Key programs driving the Asom Mala initiative include the SOPD, ASRIP, ASCCIP, and the NIDA.
Significant milestones under the SOPD program have already been achieved, including the completion of projects such as Ghographur-Damodardham Bijulighat in Nalbari and Singimari-Sualkuchi (4 laning) in Kamrup. The ASRIP initiative has seen noteworthy projects like Dhodor Ali in Golaghat and Sarthebari-Pathsala in Barpeta. ASCCIP has successfully implemented projects at the Bhutan border, Bongaigaon, Kalain, and Hailakandi, while NIDA has contributed to urban development projects in Rangajan and Kokrajhar.
CM Sarma expressed optimism about the Asom Mala initiative, stating that it would act as a catalyst for socio-economic development, foster connectivity, and propel Assam into a new era of growth. Notable progress has already been made, with several projects under these programs nearing completion, promising a brighter future for Assam's infrastructure and economy.
