Assam Police Ranks 3rd, Sikkim 5th in IFP Survey-2021

Guwahati: The Assam Police has secured the third position in the index for public perceptions and citizens satisfaction in a survey for 2021 conducted by the Indian Police Foundation (IFP) in 29 states and union territories.

The scores are set on a scale of 1 to 10 that indicates the levels of citizen satisfaction, a score of 10 being the highest level of satisfaction nation.

As per the survey, Andhra Pradesh tops the list with 8.11, followed by Telangana (8.10), Assam (7.89), Kerala (7.53), Sikkim (7,18), Mizoram (7.14) and Gujarat (7.04).

On the other hand, the five states listed at the bottom of the list were Punjab (6.07), Jharkhand (6.07), Chhattisgarh (5.93), Uttar Pradesh (5.81) and Bihar (5.74).

The survey reads, “Despite being attacked for sufficient sensitivity, declining public confidence and growing concerns about the quality of policing, a majority of citizens believed that the police are doing their job well and strongly support the police.”

“Going by the individual indicators for the six competency-based dimension, Assam Police has been ranked at third position in “perception index of police sensitivity,” “perception index of strict and good behavior,” “perception index of accessibility,” “perception index of police responsiveness” and “perception index of helpful and friendly policing.” Only in the “perception index of technology adoption.” the report added.

Notably, in the ‘perception score of public trust in the police,’ the Assam police force has ranked fourth in the country.

Meanwhile, Director General of Police, Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, expressing appreciating the Assam police, said, “I am happy to mention that Assam police has secured the third rank in the country in important individual parameters like police sensitivity, strictness and good behavior, accessibility, police responsiveness, helpful and friendly policing, fair, unbiased and lawful policing and police accountability. However, there will be no room for complacency and Assam police have to go a long way.”

As per reports, 1,61, 192 people were interviewed for the survey and 64 percent of the responses were received online and 36 percent gathered offline.

Notably, the smart policing idea was introduced at the conference of the Directors General of Police of the states and Central police organizations held in Guwahati in 2014
