Cachar: The Cachar police apprehended two members of the All Bengali Students Youth Organisation (ABSYO) for their alleged involvement in the recent defacing of Assamese hoardings incident in Silchar by smearing black ink.
The two ABSYO members, who were arrested on Tuesday evening, were identified as Raju Deb and Samar Das.
A number of government hoardings in Assamese language were defaced with black ink in Silchar allegedly by members of Barak Democratic Youth Front (BDYF) and ABSYO.

The incident caused mass outrage across the state, with several organizations and people from both Barak and Brahmaputra valley demanding stringent action against the miscreants. The incident has been highly condemned by people of Barak valley as well, calling it an insult to a language, to the identity of the common masses of Assam.
Meanwhile, BDYF chief Pradip Dutta Roy, who was summoned by the police in connection with the incident, has denied any involvement in the case. He said that the organization was not involved in the alleged act of dishonoring the Assamese language.
He said that he had informed police that there was a protest program of their organization at the same venue but the banner was smeared with black ink before they reached the spot, adding that they have no idea who was involved in the incident.
It may be noted that miscreants smeared a hoarding of the government written in Assamese language with black ink in front of the Silchar Railway Station. This incident caused a massive uproar in the state with the Cachar police suspecting members of the BDYF behind the incident although the organisation has denied an involvement in the case.
The miscreants even wrote “Bangla Likhun” (write in Bengali) below the Assamese hoarding and the names of the two organisations below it. Pictures of the same circulated in the social media.
