Guwahati: The Assam government announced recipients due for the second dose of Covid-19 vaccines would be given top preference. To guarantee that the directed period of hits is maintained, Health and Family Welfare Minister Keshab Mahanta stated on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Minister Keshab Mahanta during the cabinet said the speed of vaccination depends upon the supply from the Centre.
Mahanta said Assam has 12 lakh vaccine doses at present, including another four lakh, which are expected to reach soon.
"At the vaccine clubs, people who queue up for the second dose are fed first so that their schedule is sustained. We have circulated directions to the DCs to prioritise the second dose," he stated.
Replying to MLA Rakibul Hussain on whether the state government's aim of vaccinating all above the age of 18 years with the first dose will be executed by August 15, Mahanta stated the purpose was fixed in July considering the vaccine stock at that period.
'We could accomplish the point if we were receiving the stock. But, moreover, our preference is to provide the second dose. Therefore, it will depend on that further,' he replied.
Regarding the health foundation, he notified the assembly that the state has 1,540 ICU beds now. Out of these beds, 1,099 are assigned for Covid-19 victims. In addition, there are 4,000 oxygen-supported beds and above 24,000 isolation beds.
"The state requires 55 metric tonnes of oxygen, which has come down to 40 MT presently. Our production quantity is 112 MT, and storehouse capacity is 600 MT, rising to 1,000 MT. In counting, Assam is providing oxygen to all the northeastern lands," Mahanta stated.
Assam has 17 COVID-19 examination labs, including 24 additional labs are coming up, he continued.
