The Gauhati Medical College and Hospital authorities formed an inquiry committee to look into the incident after the victim's husband, Mrinal Ali, submitted a complaint against the doctor.
Digital Desk: The trainee doctor who was accused of abusing a female patient hospitalized at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital's (GMCH) Obstetrics and Gynecology Department has been expelled from the hospital with immediate effect for one year.
The Gauhati Medical College and Hospital authorities formed an inquiry committee to look into the incident after the victim's husband, Mrinal Ali, submitted a complaint against the doctor.
The committee was tasked with investigating the accusations made against Dr. Mahajan. It was chaired by Dr. B P Das and included Drs. Kanakeswar Bhuyan, Pankaj Adhicari, and Pradip Kr Das.
The charged doctor, Dr. Abhishek Mahajan, is accused of assaulting the pregnant woman in the hospital's labour room on the morning of April 18, 2024, based on the report from the inquiry committee and his confession to the incident.
The Gauhati Medical College & Hospital has ordered Dr. Mahajan's immediate one-year expulsion for misconduct, misbehavior, and unethical practice while on duty. This decision was made in response to a statement made by Prof. (Dr.) A.C. Baishya, Principal-cum-Chief Superintendent of GMCH, Guwahati.
The severity of the matter has increased as earlier photos of the woman surfaced, showing obvious marks of abuse on her face along with bruises.
GMCH Superintendent Abhijit Sarma responded to this revelation by affirming the formation of an inquiry committee and highlighting the significance of launching a swift investigation into the issue.
