Digital Desk: The prime accused in the gruesome Guwahati double murder case, Bondona Kalita, appeared before the District and Sessions Judge Court, Kamrup (M) on Tuesday morning. Kalita, accused of plotting and executing the murder of her husband and mother-in-law in Noonmati, was granted bail by the same court on November 10.
The Kamrup Metropolitan District and Sessions Judge Court, while granting bail in case number 91/23, imposed specific terms and conditions. Kalita, along with her accomplices Dhanti Deka and Arup Deka, was released on bail. The court directed her to appear at the Noonmati Police Station twice a week and restricted her from leaving the district without prior court approval.
However, the Assam police swiftly moved a plea challenging the trial court's decision before the Supreme Court of India on Tuesday, adding a layer of controversy to the proceedings.
Simultaneously, the family of the deceased, Amarjyoti Dey, has filed a petition in the District and Sessions Judge Court, Kamrup (M), seeking ownership of the property.
The heinous crime took place in July 2023, when Bondona Kalita, aided by her accomplices, allegedly murdered her husband and mother-in-law. The chilling details of the crime involve the dismemberment of the victims' bodies, with body parts stored in a refrigerator for three days before being disposed of in Meghalaya.
The motive behind the gruesome act is believed to be an extramarital affair that Bondona Kalita was involved in.
Guwahati Police, during search operations in Meghalaya's Dawki, recovered missing parts of the victims' remains. After three months of investigation, a comprehensive 1,600-page charge sheet was drafted against Bondona Kalita and her accomplices.
As legal battles unfold, the community awaits justice for the victims and answers to the chilling questions surrounding this macabre crime.
