Digital Desk: Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, announced today on microblogging site X that the highly anticipated Guwahati-North Guwahati bridge over the Brahmaputra River has achieved a significant milestone, nearing 80% completion. The announcement assured citizens that the bridge is on track to open to the public as planned.
The ambitious six-lane bridge-cum-road project, introduced in June 2023, aimed to tackle Guwahati's persistent traffic congestion. With a scheduled completion date in 2024, the project spans the Brahmaputra, connecting Guwahati and North Guwahati.
Expressing confidence in the project's progress, Chief Minister Sarma shared his optimism on X, stating, "We will soon be able to decongest Guwahati. The six-lane bridge connecting the city to North Guwahati will be ready next year."
This substantial infrastructure initiative, totaling 8.4 kilometers and constructed at a cost of Rs 2608 crore, features a 1.24 km long main span. Post-bridge crossing from Guwahati, the road will expand into six lanes, extending up to Gauripur, promising enhanced connectivity and smoother commutes for the region's residents.
