I will give her a red carpet welcome if she visits Assam: Himanta Biswa Sarma takes a dig at Mamata

Guwahati: Taking a dig at Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that he will give a red carpet welcome to his Bengal counterpart if she visits Assam.

Additionally, CM Sarma added that Banerjee’s visit would benefit the BJP party in the election as it will help divide the votes between the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Congress.

The Assam CM visited West Bengal’s Siliguri to pay last rites to former Asom Jatiya Parisad’s (AJP) MLA Alok Kumar Ghose at his residence.

CM Sarma said, “The more Mamata Banerjee visits Assam and Tripura, the more BJP party will be benefited as the votes will be divided between Congress and TMC.”

“I will personally welcome her by rolling out a red carpet,” added CM Sarma.

Moreover, pointing out her visit to Kamakhya temple CM Sarma asserted she is always welcome to Assam, “Except offering prayers she has nothing to do in Assam.”

When asked about Sushmita Dev’s joining the TMC, CM Sarma said, “Sushmita Dev belongs from a particular district of Assam, not the whole state. The more Sushmita Dev will do the campaign for TMC, the more votes will be divided between United Democratic Front and TMC, which will be beneficial for the BJP.”

Commenting over the post-poll violence in West Bengal, CM Sarma asserted, “Both Assam and West Bengal assembly polls took place at the same time but not even a stone was pelted at any house in Assam. It’s a dire need for the security of the West Bengal people that court should order a CBI probe.”

Notably, Calcutta High Court ordered a court-monitored CBI probe into the incidents of post-poll violence in West Bengal.
