IRBF Jawan arrested in connection with Saturday's blast along Assam-Mizoram border

A bomb blast took place in the wee hours of Saturday night along the Assam-Mizoram border. An Indian Reserve Battalion Jawan (IRBF) was arrested from the site after he was found loitering around the blast site.

A senior police officer stated, "IRBF jawan, identified as Laldintwang, was meandering around the blast site with the cordex wire. He is a resident of Bairabi in Mizoram's Kolasib."

"He was held and sent to judicial custody," stated Hailakandi police superintendent Gaurav Upadhyay. Gaurav also stated that the investigation is underway.

The bomb blast took place near a border outpost along the interstate border with Mizoram in Hailakandi district.

An Assam Police official inspections the blast site stated, "The blast took place at around 1:45 am. We received info that the blast was done by some Mizo miscreants using detonation cord near Baicherra BOP under Ramnathpur PS."

Meantime, the Bairabi branch of Mizo Zirlai Pawl has said that if the jawan is not released by 4 pm on Saturday, they will ban all Assam vehicles from accessing Zophai.

This high-intensity bomb added tension within the two states against the backdrop of the July 26 violence. During July 26 violence, six Assam Police personnel were killed, and over 50 were injured.

Earlier, Assam Police had alleged that people from the Mizoram side threw stones and hit them. In contrast, the Mizoram government said the state police responded after Assam Police officers "forcibly passed" a post.
