Jorhat mob attack: When humanity lost its fight against collective human consciousness

Jorhat: He went out like any other day; happy and elated. Little would he knew that he will be surrounded by an angry mob all for some miscommunication that would later claim his life. Animesh Bhuyan left this mortal world, in a rather sad state. Humanity lowered his head, losing the battle against the vicious collective human consciousness in Jorhat.

A mob of over 50 people attacked three youths in which Animesh Bhuyan (30) was killed, a day ago, near the truck station, right in the centre of Jorhat.

Animesh Bhuyan was also a leader of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU). The other two were injured and are received treatment.

Hailing from Golaghat’s Khumtai area, Animesh and two others were grievously injured when the mob attacked alleging they were behind an accident that took place in the area.

The Jorhat police have till now arrested 13 persons in the mob lynching case of Animesh and two others in which Animesh died. Of the 13 people arrested, nine of them have been identified as Niraj Das, Mohan Das, Deba Das, Sarulora Das, Chiranjeeb, Bitopan Das, Bikram Das, Subhash Bora and Abhinash Bora.

Last night, Special DGP (Law & Order) GP Singh informed that 10 persons have been arrested in connection to the case. He also said that an investigation will be initiated on the matter at the highest level.

Taking to Twitter, he wrote, “Reference Jorhat incident – Till now ten persons have been arrested by @Jorhat_Police The investigation shall be monitored at the highest level including @AssamCid @assampolice @mygovassam @CMOfficeAssam.

Animesh Bhuyan, the Education secretary of AASU Brahmaputra Anchal (Golaghat Unit) along with two others had visited Jorhat for some official work on Monday. In the afternoon, they were brutally attacked by a large mob suspecting them to be involved in an accident case, whereas apparently, they were not.

The trio was grievously injured after which Jorhat police rushed them to Jorhat Medical College Hospital (JMCH). Doctors however declared Animesh Bhuyan dead on arrival.

The entire state has condemned the heinous crime by some demons of the society as unpardonable and that cannot be let loose by some mild punishment.

CM Himanta Biswa Sarma too condoled the death of the AASU leader and ordered Jorhat police to expedite investigation so that the accused can be given strict and severe punishment.
