    Nagaland Updates: Nagaland police takes suo moto FIR against Para special forces

    Nagaland: The Nagaland police stated that they had taken a suo moto FIR against 21 para special forces of the Indian Army. This action has been taken in connection with a counter-insurgency operation, which led to the deaths of 14 innocent civilians. An Army jawan also lost his life when the situation soon deteriorated out of control.





    A counter-insurgency operation led by an elite unit of the Indian Army's Para Special Forces in Nagaland went wrong on Saturday.





    The Nagaland police stated that they had not received any information from the special Army unit before the operation. Neither took any police guide for the counter-insurgency operation in the Mon district that borders Myanmar.





    The Mon region is the bastion of Naga group NSCN(K) and Assam's ULFA (United Liberation Front of Asom). The district shares an international border with Myanmar and the state border with Assam. The region is known to be high-strung and volatile.





    Sources stated that the truck which was attacked had eight people on board. Six of them were killed on the spot. Two others died on the way to the hospital. It was believed that all those on the truck were local coal miners.

    Sources additionally stated that no arms or ammunition were recovered from the truck. 





    Soon after the incident, hundreds of villagers armed with stones and machetes attacked the army unit camp. The army unit opened fire in self-defense, in which at least five 5 villagers were killed, and many others were injured.





    The situation turned worse on Sunday evening when protestors of the village surrounded the camp. Police sources stated they broke into the camp and tried to set fire to a portion of it.





    Government sources stated that Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, who was in Delhi, returned to the state and will soon hold an urgent cabinet meeting. Today, top military, police, and home ministry officials will meet in Nagaland capital Kohima.





    The internet services and SMS services in the Mon district have been blocked to stop the circulation of misleading pieces of information.
