Guwahati: Silchar is all set to host the upcoming northeastern green summit from November 16. The meet will comprise a round table of forest ministers of the region.
This meet is associated with sustainable growth and preservation plans for the Northeast and its adjoining biodiversity zones. The meet will take place in the Cachar district for three days.
The focus range of the sixth edition of the summit is “Greening after Covid: Regional Cooperation, Innovation and Entrepreneurship”.
Union Minister of State for Environment Ashwini Chaubey is likely to attend the summit. Moreover, delegates from Bangladesh, Bhutan and Myanmar will further brainstorm on different issues.
Various stalls highlighting sustainable products from across the northeastern region will be part of the summit. Also, the Vibgyor NE Foundation and backed by United Nations Environment (UNEP) supports the presentation of the stalls and products.

A green cyclothon is on November 8 to promote awareness concerning the rapidly-depleting resources.
The demonstration further intends to promote the heritage intents of southern Assam, also known as Barak Valley, and eco-tourism and raise awareness on sustainable growth.
“The plan of the forest ministers’ round table will be essential to focus matters of common concerns on climate change, animal migration, movement of forest produce, management of natural resources on the interstate and international borders, forest and wildlife offence with ramifications across each other’s territory among many other issues,” stated former IFS officer and advisory board member of the summit C P Marak.
Atul Bagai, India head of UNEP, stated that while the Northeast is relatively better in greenery and natural resources, global warming and climate change are visible with delayed rains and longer summers.
“It is the time to act so that we can give back what belongs to nature. Like previous years, Northeast Green Summit 2021 will act as a catalyst in the northeastern region to combat global warming and act towards conservation,” Bagai stated.
For years, the summit has been supporting innovative and thriving conservation plans across the Northeast.
