    Fake NGO Exposed in Dibrugarh: Fundraising Scam Busted Using Dead Child’s Photo and False Claims of Old Age Home
    Upon interrogation, the self-styled founder confessed that Pohorar Baat was indeed a fake NGO

    Digital Desk: A shocking incident came to light when the fake fundraising racket, which was acting as an NGO (an old age home)  by name the  ‘Pohorar Baat; was busted in Dibrugarh, Assam. Panchali Pal Sarkar, Rupa Barman Singh, Jay Sarkar, and their self-proclaimed founder, Biki Bhattacharyya, headed a cadre that has been garnering funds door-to-door for several years, all under the pretense of running an old age home.

    The scams involved showing photos of a deceased child presented as a sick and living person to emotionally  manipulate the   victims’ emotions to form  and fooling them and take  money from them. The group mainly targeted kind-hearted households in Dibrugarh and other surrounding districts, pretending to work for the welfare of the elderly. Women from the group would go to homes and also give counterfeit money receipts under the fake NGO’s name.

    Their repeated visits raised suspicion when they returned to the same households where they had previously collected money. One resident, upon  questioning, revealed that the NGO had an old age home under the Dibrugarh overbridge, a facility in reality, does not exist

    After the suspicion, concerned citizens informed the Bir Lachit Sena, who caught the group at Chiring Chapori in Dibrugarh. When interrogated, the self-proclaimed founder confessed that 'Pohorar Baat ' was indeed a fake NGO.

    The police were made aware, and the group has been arrested for further investigation.
