Digital Desk: Manas National Park, a renowned wildlife sanctuary in Assam, India, is set to close its doors to both domestic and foreign tourists. The closure will affect various activities within the park, including the popular elephant safari and river rafting, which will cease operations on May 20.
The thrilling Jeep Safari, a favourite among visitors, will come to a halt on June 5. This decision, as communicated by the national park's field director, Suman Mohapatra, aims to ensure the safety of both visitors and the wildlife inhabiting the park.
The closure of Manas National Park during this period aligns with the seasonal patterns observed in many national parks in India. Just like other parks, Manas experiences flooding during the monsoon season, necessitating the temporary suspension of certain activities to safeguard visitors and maintain the ecological balance within the park.
The best time to visit Manas National Park typically ranges from November to April or May, depending on the arrival of the monsoons. During this period, visitors can witness the park's diverse wildlife, including the iconic one-horned rhinos that roam its lush landscapes.
Manas National Park's rich biodiversity, including its population of one-horned rhinos, is a testament to successful conservation efforts in the region. The park has been involved in initiatives like the rhino reintroduction program under the Indian Rhino Vision 2020, which has contributed to the growth of the rhino population within the park.
Despite challenges such as undercounting during population estimations, the park continues to be a vital habitat for various species, including the elusive clouded leopards that roam its tropical forests.
Visitors are encouraged to plan their trips accordingly, considering the seasonal closures and the unique wildlife experiences that Manas National Park offers.
