in temperatures, with many areas recording the highest maximum temperatures in
September. This unusual weather has caused concern among the public, and it has also led to deaths due to this agonizing temperature spike.
On Monday, September 23rd, 2024, all-time high temperatures were recorded throughout the state. Temperatures soared to 39.3 degrees Celsius in Guwahati, 39.5 degrees Celsius in Dibrugarh, 39.6 degrees Celsius in North Lakhimpur, and 37.9 degrees Celsius in Jorhat. Similarly, Shillong, which is also experiencing an unusually hot spell, had recorded 29.9 degrees Celsius the previous day and has now reached its highest September temperature ever on record for three consecutive days.
The spiking temperatures have led to major health worries, particularly for children and the elderly. Following reports of heat-related illnesses and students falling unconscious, the Kamrup Metropolitan has issued an order for all schools in the capital city to be temporarily closed. It was decided that the best solution for the students would be to save them from suffering due to this unbearable heat.
However, The temperature has dropped significantly since Monday evening, bringing much-needed relief to the region. In light of the recent changes, the administration has revoked its previous order, allowing schools to return to their regular schedules. This decision was made in response to the heatwave, which had caused health-related issues and disrupted the daily routine of educational institutions.
