Digital Desk: Following India's decisive victory over England in the last Test match at Dharamsala, BCCI secretary Jay Shah announced a new scheme that will be implemented for the senior men's team starting in the 2023–24 season.

The BCCI said in a release that "this scheme is designed to address the evolving dynamics of the cricketing landscape, ensuring parity with match fees in other formats and league cricket, in addition to encouraging players to engage in the purest form of the sport."

"We are thrilled to introduce the 'Test Cricket Incentive Scheme,' reaffirming our dedication to the well-being and encouragement of our senior men cricketers," BCCI President Roger Binny said in an official release. This program is in line with our goal of elevating Test cricket to the highest level of the game.

On X, the secretary of the BCCI had tweeted from his official account. "A step aimed at providing financial growth and stability to our esteemed athletes," was how he described the program.

The "Test Cricket Incentive Scheme will function as an extra reward structure on top of the current match cost for Test matches, which is set at INR 15 lakhs," Shah further stated.

The statement was made immediately following India's thrilling 4-1 victory over England in the series' final Test match, which was won at Dharmsala.

The official statement from the BCCI's honorary secretary said, “The ‘Test Cricket Incentive Scheme’ is a progressive move to acknowledge the significance of Test cricket. This pioneering initiative is intricately aligned with our broader vision, which is focused on the promotion of Test cricket as the undisputed pinnacle of the sport. As we embark on this journey, we are not only recognizing the invaluable contributions of our players but also fostering an environment that values and prioritizes the essence of the traditional format of the game. This scheme is designed to inspire our cricketers to contribute their absolute best to the longer format of the game. It is a recognition of the unique challenges and demands that Test cricket poses, and through this initiative, we seek to not only reward excellence but also cultivate a renewed passion for the purest form of the sport.”

After losing the opening Test match in Hyderabad, Rohit Sharma's team recovered. Young talents like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sarfaraz Khan, Dhruv Jurel, and Devdutt Padikkal, who have excelled at both the field and in run scoring, were discovered by the home team.

Jaiswal went on to win the Player of the Series title for his five-match series in which he scored 712 runs. In addition, he earned two double-centuries, three fifties, and 26 maximums.

A few milestones were also reached by Ravichandran Ashwin. After that, he joined the elite group of players with 500 Test wickets, and in his 100th Test match in Dharamsala, he claimed nine wickets.

The team is presently leading the World Test Championship (WTC) standings after winning the series. They will now focus on the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the T20 World Cup 2024, which will be held by the United States of America and the West Indies.
