Digital Desk: The upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 will be hosted by India for the first time in its entirety. As per reports, the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 will begin on October 5 and will end on November 19, with the final match scheduled to take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, which is the world's largest cricket stadium.
According to ESPNCricinfo, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has also shortlisted at least a dozen venues for the marquee cricket event, including Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Dharamsala, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Indore, Rajkot, and Mumbai. The tournament will consist of 48 matches over the course of 46 days.
However, the BCCI has not yet specified any match venues or cities that will hold warm-up matches. This is due to the complications caused by the monsoon season receding at various times in different parts of the nation. Normally, the ICC announces World Cup schedules at least a year in advance, but the BCCI is also awaiting required clearances from the Indian government.
These include tax exemptions and visa approval for the Pakistan team, which has not played a bilateral series against India since 2013.
Since then, the two sides have only played in ICC competitions. At the ICC's quarterly meetings last weekend in Dubai, the BCCI was reported to have guaranteed the sport's global governing body that Pakistani teams' visas would be approved by the Indian government.
On the tax exemption issue, BCCI is expected to provide an update to ICC on the government's exact position on the matter.
