Digital Desk: On Thursday, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma honoured ace pugilist and World Boxing Championship gold winner Lovlina Borgohain in Guwahati.
The ace boxer and pride of the nation Lovlina Borgohain arrived in Assam earlier today after winning the gold medal at the IBA Women's World Boxing Championships, where she was greeted with flowers and gamosas at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport.
The Assam boxer was honoured at Janata Bhawan during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with three companies to develop high-performance sports training and rehabilitation centres in two state towns.
Assam Chief Minister stated on Twitter, “Lovlina has taken Assam and Indian sports to a new zenith. I had the great privilege to felicitate her for the stunning performance in the Boxing World Championship. Thank you @LovlinaBorgohai for encouraging so many of us and wishing you many more medals in the coming years.”
The Assam government announced a Rs. 50 lakh reward for ace pugilist Lovlina Borgohain yesterday.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma made the news at the Assam Assembly.
Lovlina Borgohain, a bronze medalist at the Tokyo Olympics, added another feather to her cap on March 26 when she won her first World Championships gold medal.
At the 75kg final of the IBA Women's World Boxing Championship in New Delhi, the Assam boxer defeated two-time Commonwealth Games medalist Caitlin Parker of Australia with a split 5-2 result.
Lovlina Borgohain's victory adds a fourth gold medal to India's tally in the ongoing World Boxing Tournament.
