Leg-spinners have more alternatives for wicket-taking, and Yuzi showed tonight how he could take wickets and turn the game in a single over.
Digital Desk: With a superb 17th over in which he scored the season's first hat-trick, Rajasthan Royals bowling coach Lasith Malinga remarked that Yuzvendra Chahal proved why leg-spinners are considered match-winners in the IPL.
Chahal (5/40 in 4 overs) bowled Venkatesh Iyer for a wicket in the 17th over. Shreyas Iyer, Shivam Mavi, and Pat Cummins for ducks in the fourth, fifth, and sixth overs, respectively, turn the match around and hand RR a narrow seven-run win over Kolkata Knight Riders on Monday night.
This came after the Royals achieved an impressive 217 for five thanks to Jos Buttler's 61-ball out of 103; this was his second hundred.
Malinga said that "Chahal has more international experience in the post-match conference. He is the most experienced leg-spinner in the country and this tournament. He showed how to control the skill. That's more important for him going forward to prove he is good enough to play any competitive cricket."
Further speaking, Malinga added that "Leg-spinners have more wicket-taking options, and he showed today how he could get wickets and change the game in a single over. He showed all the leg-spinners that they are the match-winning bowlers in this competition."
Brendon McCullum, the head coach of the Kolkata Knight Riders, said it was a great match, but Chahal and Buttler simply stole the game away from his team.
Also adding that Yuzvendra Chahal had promised to recreate his iconic pose from the 2019 World Cup if he achieved anything remarkable in the Indian Premier League, so when he got his first career hat-trick, he knew exactly what to do. Check out his latest pose this season of IPL.
Rajasthan Royals stand in the second position this IPL season with four wins out of six matches played till now.
